Leadership Center for Excellence (LCE) invites you to apply for the Young Professionals Program Class of 2020! Apply online using the following application. Please learn about the program, including its required time and financial commitment, before applying. 

The application deadline is Monday, September 2, 2019. Applicants will be notified of selection status by Friday, September 6. The class size is limited to roughly 40-50 participants.

ATTENDANCE

Check your calendar prior to applying against the dates below to ensure no known conflicts exist. Please reserve these dates until you are informed of your application status. 

Young Professionals Program participants are expected to physically attend all sessions, including the mandatory Opening Retreat on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 and Saturday, October 5, 2019. No more than two excused session absences are permitted. Any participants who have an unexcused absence, miss the Opening Retreat or miss more than two sessions will be dropped from the program and will not graduate with their classmates.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CRITERIA

Leadership Center for Excellence’s Young Professionals Program is a leadership development program that provides up-and-coming leaders the opportunity to develop new skills and acquire the resources necessary to engage in their community. It is designed to inform, engage and increase awareness through interaction with community leaders. Participants are selected based on the following criteria:

  • High standards of personal integrity;

  • Sincere and strong desire to increase community involvement;

  • Commitment necessary of the time and effort to complete the program; and

  • Representation from a cross-section of the population.

All applicants must:

  • Be 25-35 years old.

  • Commit the required time to the program.

  • Have the support of the organization for whom the participant works (understanding the time requirements and/or tuition).

  • Use his or her leadership skills and knowledge for the long-term benefit of the community.

While applications are confidential, we may use the information submitted by class members in printed materials. To assist in selecting a class that reflects the diversity of the community, applicants are asked to specify their gender, race and/or ethnicity.

TUITION

Tuition for the Young Professionals Program is $3,000. The participant and/or employer/sponsor will be expected to pay tuition by September 30, 2019 unless other arrangements have been made with approval from Liz Nohra, Chief of External Relations, of LCE. Tuition covers all program costs, including food and materials, as well as tickets to Leadership Summit (February 28) and the Legislative Breakfast (April 24).

Tuition is non-refundable in whole or part in the event that the participant fails to complete the program due to non-attendance or other circumstances. Payment plans are available upon request by contacting Liz Nohra, Chief of External Relations, at lnohra@leadercenter.org. A limited number of partial scholarships are available where need is adequately demonstrated (see below).

SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE

Leadership Center for Excellence encourages qualified candidates to apply to the Young Professionals Program. A limited number of partial scholarships are available. Candidates interested in applying for financial assistance should submit a one-page document with the amount requested and the reason for the request. Please note there is no online scholarship request form. Requests must be submitted at the time you submit your application and can be sent via e-mail to apps@leadercenter.org. Additionally, if the applicant’s organization is paying any portion of the tuition, submit an organizational budget with the scholarship request. Admission decisions are needs-blind. All scholarship requests will remain confidential.

APPLICATION TIPS

  • Information contained in this application determines whether you will be selected for the program. Answer questions authentically, sincerely, thoroughly and completely.

  • Take time to highlight what unique professional and personal experiences and perspectives you bring to the group.

  • Past community service or volunteerism is considered, however, a desire to deepen involvement is very important.

  • No acronyms, please.

  • Typed application answers are preferred over handwritten.

  • Do not attach or send any additional documents like resumes, etc.
