Leadership Center for Excellence (LCE) invites you to apply for the Youth Program Class of 2019! Apply online using the following application. Please learn about the Youth Program, including its required time and financial commitment, before applying.

The application is due on Friday May, 31 at 5:00pm. Once you have applied, you will be notified of your acceptance status 2-3 weeks after applying and no later than Friday, June 28 by close of business. The class size is limited to roughly 40 participants.


The program includes one week (July 29 – August 2, 2019) during which participants will explore concepts, practice new skills, and be matched with mentors to explore leadership in action throughout the community. Participant mentor relationship will include a job shadowing experience at a mutually agreed upon time, a Volunteer Arlington-sponsored class volunteer service experience (October 16, 2019) and a Mentor Leadership Lunch and Learn (March 11, 2020), both APS early release days. Program participants will graduate next spring will the Center's 2020 Leadership Arlington and Young Professional Program graduates on Tuesday, May 14, 2020, joining an alumni body dedicated to making eladership growth a lifelong journey. Check your calendar prior to applying and reserve these dates until you are informed of your application status. 
*All program days run from 9:00am - 5:00pm, except on Thursday, August 1, which will be held from 1:00pm - 7:30pm

Each application will be judged on its own merits. Participants will be selected on the basis of their:

  • Demonstration of leadership skills in either a traditional or non-traditional setting.
  • Participation in community or family service activities.
  • Communication skills.
  • Recommendation from an adult reference.


Tuition for the Leadership Arlington Youth Program is $500. Limited scholarships are available where need is adequately demonstrated (see below). LCE accepts checks, VISA, MasterCard and American Express.


LCE encourages qualified candidates to apply to the Youth Program regardless of financial status. A limited number of partial scholarships are available. Candidates interested in applying for financial assistance should submit a one-page "Scholarship Request Form" with the amount requested and rationale behind the request. Requests MUST be submitted with your application via email to Miya Furukawa, Events & Programs Coordinator, at All scholarship requests will remain confidential.
